It was set to go for $44 million with the US based firm North Capital showing interest at first but then the deal did not push thru. The Swan, as Swedish Autmobile is also known, had to keep the sports car brand.

The recent fall of Saab was like a knockout punch for the Swedish car manufacturer putting its future in real trouble. Reports say that the company’s owner, Victor Muller, is hoping to sell Spyer to avoid it being shut down.

Muller stated during an interview that it is critical to complete the sale of the Spyker brand or get enough financing to keep afloat the sports car brand and even Swedish Automobile itself. The picture is not that good if the company fails to do either and most likely Swan will not survive.

Swan offered 2.5 million shares in order to secure a life line just for the short term as the company waits potential buyers of Spyker to make their bids.

Another bad news is that the supervisory board of Swedish Automobile lost three members which only leaves on the top post, Victor Muller. The board members of Swan left because of differences in opinion with Muller who is the CEO with regard to the alternative funding that can be tapped by the car manufacturer after its subsidiary Saab filed for bankruptcy and for the future of its sports car division Spyker.

Muller adds that there are negotiations are in progress but Swan wants to evaluate every possible option which includes sizing down the brand and getting additional financing.

The private firm has Alex Mascioli, a race car enthusiast, at the helm.

The owner of Saab has been struggling for quite some time now as the car manufacturer balances on a very thin line avoiding bankruptcy. It has been selling a number of assets to cover for expenses of the supply chain, pay employees, and jump start the production in their assembly line in Sweden.

The company was able to seek protection from court last week as it waited for some funding from Chinese firms. In a recent report though, it has been confirmed that the agreement with the investors from China have collapsed.

The money collected for the sale of the Spyker brand will be utilized to pay some debt with Tenaci which is a private investment firm under the control of Victor Muller, topman of Saab and Swedish Automobile.

Swedish Automobile also shared that the North Street will has a good development plan for the luxury sports car brand considering that Mascioli has been involved in car racing for a good number of years.

The sports cars of Spyker have appeared in some films including the second installment of Basic Instinct and The Pink Panther. Spyker has a limited run each year producing a few dozen units.

Muller will still be the top executive of Spyker even after sealing the North Street deal.

Last February, Swedish Automobile announced that the Spyker might be acquired by CPP Global Holdings owned by Vladimir Antonov, who is himself a former shareholder of Spyker. This deal with the UK based holding firm would have raised around thirty two million euros but the deal was put on hold as of August.

Spyker Cars, owner of the Saab brand, recently announced that it has formed an agreement with two Chinese companies that will put in around $350 million of combined investments to gain control of Saab and Spyker. This agreement if approved by the Swedish and Chinese government and the stakeholders of the companies will mean that Swedish car brands Spyker, Saab, and including Volvo will be under the control of Chinese owners.

What has been happening in the past eighteen months with the Swedish car manufacturer is quite dizzying with General Motors handing over the control of Saab to the smaller company Spyker that is known to have a low volume production output of very expensive sports cars. The scramble includes the attempts of Spyker to get enough funds from the Swedish government, a Russian financier, and investment banks in Europe so Saab can survive.

Saab disclosed that the memorandum was signed with Youngman Lotus Automobile Company of China to get around 30% share of Spyker in exchange for a $195 million investment.

The other half of the deal includes Pang Da Automobile of China in collaboration with Youngman Lotus to have Saab cars produced in China plus its distribution in the current biggest automobile market in the world.

Pang Da is the biggest distributor of cars in China and will have a 24% stake of Spyker. In combination with the other Chinese company, they will have a 53% control of Spyker and will also be at the helm of Saab. Pang Da will be putting in an additional investment of $155 million.

This was disclosed by Spyker CEO Victor Muller.

Muller disclosed the plan of signing up the dealerships of Saab during an interview at the headquarters of Saab in Sweden.

Spyker wants to boost their network to 60 stores this year from the 35 that it has at the moment. The build up should hit 90 outlets by the end of 2011 as the Saab brand will pus for the other models like the C8 Aileron that can zoom to 300 kilometers an hour and with a sticker pirce of $214, 990 in the United States.

Saab was able to buy Saab from General Motors after a long stretch effort of the latter to unload the brand. Spyker was able to sell 36 cars in 2009 and the new dealerships will help it bounce back to profitability.

The supercar brand also benefited from the other generic parts like the windshield wipers which it gets from the higher volume Saab orders. Muller also added that it will tap the engineering resources of Saab.

The Spyker CEO is very pleased how the company also benefits from the company it saved.

Spyker recently inked the deal that ends the sale saga of Saab. The carmaker was on financial rocky grounds and needed some saving. The Dutch producer of supercars has officially announced its ownership of Saab.

Saab will operate under the helm of its new mother company the Spyker Cars N.V. The sale marks an exciting time, though sorry to the brand which now belongs to a list of failed auto badges, as Spyker might have some positive influence to the iconic Saab brand.

The top executive of Saab sees the deal as beneficial for customers, dealers, suppliers, and employees of the company. The car manufacturer is now looking ahead to what the next step will be for their brand. The earliest move will be the roll out of the 9-5 sedan which is expected to hit dealerships on the latter part of 2010.

The government of Sweden, Spyker Cars, and General Motors explored all possibilities and potentials of the deal to make it sustainable for Saab. The transfer of the operations of Saab might take about a month complete but the completion of the deal will promote a good mood to create new products for Saab.

Spyker is a small company that makes only a handful of units every year but the persistence of their team showed its commitment to the Saab brand for the long-term.

The sales process started last summer when GM had to declare bankruptcy. Saab attracted bidders but only Koenigssegg came close to inking one only to back out because of funding problems. Spyker came up with the money and somehow gives another life to Saab.
